Anuya Jakatdar

About

Anuya is a writer and creative professional with 18+ years of experience under her belt. She started her career as the editor of a youth magazine for Times of India called JLT, rose up the ranks to become editor of Femina Girl (the younger sister of their flagship brand for women, Femina) and moved through corporate marketing roles at MTV, Star India Pvt Ltd, and YouTube before settling on advertising.

She’s a typical millennial, someone who can’t sit still because her brain is full of creative thoughts in Brownian motion, waiting to escape into the world in the form of strange little projects.

Testimonials

"I've known Anuya for over a decade now, starting with when she interviewed for a role on my team. While she was one of those that got away back then, I had the good fortune of working with her when she was at Google and YouTube, leading our Social Media Marketing efforts.
Since that time, I've watched with awe as she has successfully built up her own agency. Bare Bones Collective is gaining a reputation for deep cultural insight that comes alive in strong, highly shareable ideas that help brands build fame, feeling and fluency. We at Google have been grateful to have worked with them.
Anuya's always had a knack towards left-field, out-of-the-blue ideas. She's able to sell them in too -- compelling pitches and a no-nonsense approach to often difficult client teams.
(I'm not just saying this) I do rate her as one of India's up-and-coming creative leaders, showing consistent glimpses of dominance on the national stage. Even among India's female creative leaders, she stands out as someone focused more on the substantive than the performative. Which is why I highly recommend her for this programme."

Samit Malkani

Head of Brand, Social & Events Marketing, Google SEA

"Anuya is a rare talent. I've had the absolute honour of working with and observing her as a marketer, and her innate creative intuition has never ceased to amaze me.From simple social posts to magnum opus films, she has a capability I haven't seen elsewhere in my 15-year career: crafting work that is not only effective but reflects culture from an incredibly unique point of view. She's driven, honest, and almost impossible to disagree with - not just because she's charming and witty, but because she's usually right. I have long admired the way she adds colour to every conversation, brainstorm or debate she's a part of and how she refuses to lower her creative bar."

Jessica Sharma

Senior Brand and Social Marketing Manager, Google

"I’ve known Anuya Jakatdar personally and professionally, and there’s never a dull moment. Her humour and wit may seem effortless, but they come from her deep curiosity, intelligence, and sharp eye for detail. Add in her stellar leadership skills, and you get someone who is not only brilliant at what she does, but also a complete hoot to have around."

Sumukhi Suresh

Actor, Writer and Comedian

"There are advertising writers but Anuya is something else. When she and the Bare Bones team sent us the Gen-Z Chudail campaign for YouTube, I knew this was someone who’s capable of special things. The zoom call with Anuya and team confirmed that. I was impressed by her sharp story sense, her generosity to evolve the material to elevate the story and her acumen for humour. Through the entire project, she led and helped us navigate several difficult situations.
She carried us through, with grace and strength. Anuya has a keen eye for what works and backs her instincts. Why wouldn’t she when they’re so refined and sharp. She’s quite no nonsense which I love.
I had a blast working with her and the madcap bunch at The Bare Bones Collective.
I’d highly recommend the experience and give it six stars out of five."

Ryan Mendonca

Award-winning advertising director

"You can reach out to Anuya when you’re stuck on a brief (and have a hilarious disruptive idea that actually works for the brand), for a brainstorm (that feels like a great night out), for a perspective (that is both empathetic and straight forward), and for a booming laugh (that announces her arrival when she’s a 100 metres away).
Anuya is the much-needed breath of fresh air (and wit), rewriting advertising in India. With nearly 20 years of experience as a writer, then running editorial and content at marquee brands, and now building her own outfit, Anuya has grown into a powerful creative force who truly champions bold and high impact ideas. And while that would be sufficient for most successful leaders, what really makes her stand out is her attention, care and empathy for her team, as much as it is to her work.  Anuya is brave, Anuya is grit, and Anuya had the guts to start and build an agency during the pandemic, while not compromising on her values, and the way she valued her team and her work. Anuya is a force of nature, and I’m glad to have worked with her, and had in my corner."
